Wildfires, driven by climate change, are a pressing problem around the world. Digital technologies have the potential to help mitigate the damage.
In India, about 36% of forest cover is prone to wildfires due to inadequate infrastructure, limited community involvement and human activities.
An ISIF Asia-supported project by Sweet Lime E-Commerce sought to improve both the prediction and detection of wildfires via the use of drones, IoT and community engagement. The project piloted the DASH system, which integrates all this sensor data in an app, in the Nallamala Forest in the State of Telangana.
The project worked with beat officers around the Nallamala Forest and Amrabad Tiger reserve to test out the technology and gain feedback.
