Solomon Islands IPv6 Readiness Project

SATSOL

By mid-2024, IPv6 adoption in Solomon Islands had reached only 1.42%. In 2020 the country was connected by the Coral Sea cable (CS2) resulting in rapid growth of Internet traffic and the need to embark on IPv6 implementation is now more pressing. This project will catalyze the adoption and deployment of IPv6 which is needed to future proof the country's developing digital infrastructure supporting the emerging digital economy. IPv6 will lead to better security, noticeably improved performance, alignment with industry standards and overall enhance Solomon Islands' global interconnectivity.

The project aims to support SATSOL, a major Solomon Islands ISP, to lead the integration of IPv6 in the local market, including:

  • Transitioning to a fully IPv6-compliant network
  • Comprehensive replacement of BSUs and 1000+ CPEs alongside core and network upgrades
  • Guiding customers and clients through their transition to IPv6
  • Capacity building for stakeholders with information sharing and technical training

This project is an IPv6 Deployment Grant.
