Design, Development and Transfer of Technology of a P4-based SDN Security Playground across multiple economies

University of Malaya

Network operators and engineers require practice to improve their skills, but practicing or experimenting on a real network poses risks to the security and connectivity of its users. There are simulation programs, but they can’t replicate the complexity of the real Internet. A virtual playground allows these network operators to hone their skills relating to Software Defined Networking (SDN) on the real Internet without these risks. This project builds upon an earlier Foundation project, Design, Development and Operation of a SDN-based Internet eXchange Playground for networkers.

This project aims to:

  • Develop an overlay virtual internet playground across Malaysia (MY), Taiwan (TW), Singapore(SG), Myanmar (MM) and Lao PDR(LA) using P4-based virtual switches.
  • Implement P4-based SDN stateful firewall techniques to monitor and address security issues within the playground.
  • Conduct two transfer of technology training sessions on advanced P4 programming and SDN-based stateful firewall security techniques for participants from the connected countries.
