Advanced Network Security training

University of Computer Science, Yangon (UCSY), which operates Myanmar’s national research and education network (mmREN)

Internet adoption in Myanmar is still low compared to the rest of South East Asia; only 41% of the population – 22 million people – are, as of 2019, connected to the Internet. This number is steadily increasing, with a 4.8% annual growth rate, which equates to close to a million users a year.

The project provided information security and advanced network security training for technical staff of the Myanmar Research and Extension Network (mmREN) and university technical staff. The project increased their understanding of cybersecurity threats and how to mitigate such threats. The training covered the key concepts, protocols and policies involved to establish and maintain a robust, stable and secure university network and protect the data and processes in it. The project supported four workshops over two years (two per year) with 30 technical staff attending each workshop.
