SDN-based Internet eXchange playground for networkers (award)

The University of Malaya

A winner of the ISIF Asia Awards 2023 is University of Malaya, Malaysia for their work on the Design, Development and Operation of a Software Defined Networking (SDN)-based Internet eXchange Playground for Networkers. A valuable simulator that can help train technical operators and strengthen routing security of IXPs.

The tool simulated a real IXP, complete with Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI). To foster participation, there was on-line training, tutorials and seminars, particularly focused on engaging women in the field.

The award was accepted by project lead Dr Ling Teck Chaw.

The 2023 ISIF Asia awards included a grant of USD 5,000 to support their work, as well as covering travel costs to attend the 2023 Internet Governance Forum held in Kyoto, Japan.
