FCA: Connecting the Unconnected (CTU) Challenge: Closing the gender digital divide 2023

The IEEEE Connecting the Unconnected Challenge (CTU) is a global event organized on 4th December 2023 held along with GlobeCom event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The CTU Summit solicited innovative solutions from start-ups, grassroots organizations, academia and civil society organization. Organized by the IEEE Future Networks Technical Community and other partners, the CTU Summit recognized early-stage projects that offer unique ways to increase broadband access and usage for unconnected or under-connected populations/geographies.

Theme of the CTU 2023 is Closing the gender digital divide.

The CTU Summit was organized in a hybrid model having presence of online and physical participants. The CTU Summit awarded 19 winners in three categories

  1. Business
  2. Technology
  3. Community

In partnership with USAID, the IEEE is bringing more focus to the persistent gender-based
inequalities in how women access, integrate with, and are empowered by digital technology by incorporating Best Gender Inclusion prize to recognize innovative solutions around gender inclusivity. In addition to the yearly prizes, there is also a special focus on Canada.

The APNIC Foundation supported the CTU Event along with other partner organizations, including USAID, VMWare, Internet Society, Mitacs and others in organizing and facilitating the winners. This financial grant helped in providing logistical arrangement to the event.
