It became increasingly clear to Tonga Communications Corporation that future-proofing their mobile network meant making the switch to IPv6. Recent growth in mobile device usage was constraining network capacity, so TCC embarked on an 18-month ISIF Asia-supported project to make the change.
There were plenty of challenges, some of which are still being worked on – there wasn’t an easy way to automatically make mobile customers switch over to IPv6 which necessitated a drawn out process of getting them to change the settings on their own devices. Plus, TCC needed to train their own staff. There were plenty of lessons learned and you can discover them in the recently published technical report on the project page.
