Bridging the Digital Divide: Empowering Rural Schools with ICT
Nepal Internet Foundation
In the remote Bhimapokhara region of Kathekhola Rural Municipality, Baglung, the Shree Janapriya Basic School and Shree Bhimadurbar Basic School both face significant challenges. These schools have seen a decline in student enrolment due to the aftermath of the civil war, mass immigration, and the COVID-19 pandemic. The majority of the students, primarily from Dalit and Janajati communities, come from low-income families who struggle to afford basic schooling materials. The lack of access to digital tools and resources further exacerbates the educational disparities, limiting these students' opportunities to succeed in a digital world.
This project aims to:
- Establish an ICT hub at both schools.
- Provide reliable and safe Internet access to both schools.
- Improve educational outcomes.
- Empower the students, teachers, and community.
- Bridge the digital divide.
- Foster independence.
The establishment of an ICT hub at Shree Janapriya Basic School and Shree Bhimadurbar Basic School will not only enhance educational opportunities for underprivileged students and teachers, but also empower the entire community through ICT and digital education.
