Switch!: Fostering women’s technical participation in the Internet industry in South East Asia (2022 – ongoing)

Donor: Asia Pacific Internet Development Trust (APIDT)

Women and LGBTQI+ technical staff working in Internet development in Cambodia, Laos, the Philippines, Thailand, Timor Leste and Viet Nam build technical capacity, are recognized by their professional contributions to Internet development and are empowered to promote and protect the open, free and secure Internet within their areas or influence.

The strategy combines education, training and mentoring to increase diversity, foster participation and increased awareness at a national and regional about their valuable technical contributions. For more information on Switch!, see the Gender and Diversity page.

The project builds on the foundations laid by the SWITCH SEA project, which you can read about in completed projects.

Mentoring Network – Afghanistan (2022 – ongoing)

Donor: Asia Pacific Internet Development Trust (APIDT)

This project is focusing on building support via training and mentoring to support network engineers, security and other Internet-related professionals in and from Afghanistan.

Research and Internet Measurement (2022 – ongoing)

Donor: Asia Pacific Internet Development Trust (APIDT)

The project supports the operation of a large-scale Internet measurement laboratory. The objective is to measure the properties of the network in the same manner as users see the network, namely by measuring the behaviour of clients of network-hosted services.

Cybersecurity: Honeynet threat sharing (2022 – ongoing)

Donor: Asia Pacific Internet Development Trust (APIDT)

This project collects threat data (suspicious traffic and malware samples) from honeypot sensors by hosting and maintaining backend infrastructure for data collection, analysis and sharing with partners.

M-Root Deployment: Streamlining M-Root deployment and operations by improving process and automation (2021 – ongoing)

Donor: Asia Pacific Internet Development Trust (APIDT)

The project is a collaboration between APNIC, the WIDE Project and Japan Registry Services (JPRS) to accelerate anycast deployment of M-Root around the Asia Pacific with 12 new M-Root anycast instances. The project is providing faster and more reliable DNS service and helping improve and increase the availability, affordability, and accessibility of the Internet in the region.

APNIC Academy Platform and Curriculum Development (2021 – ongoing)

Donor: Asia Pacific Internet Development Trust (APIDT)

The project is accelerating and strengthening the development of an integrated online platform (the APNIC Academy) to support training and technical assistance and develop a comprehensive curriculum for self-paced and instructor-led training. It is providing improved access to training and technical assistance, boosting technical capacity in the Asia Pacific region.

Community Trainers Network Expansion (2021 – ongoing)

Donor: Asia Pacific Internet Development Trust (APIDT)

By recruiting, retaining and developing more Community Trainers at the local level, this project is expanding the scope and effectiveness of APNIC Academy training. The additional local-level support provided by the project is increasing instructor-led APNIC training in targeted economies and can provide options for training in the local language along with improved translation support for content.

Supporting training delivery in the Asia Pacific (2021 – ongoing)

Donor: Asia Pacific Internet Development Trust (APIDT)

This project is training members of the Asia Pacific Internet technical community to proficiently understand, configure, and manage their Internet infrastructure and services while embracing best current practices.

Curriculum development for non-technical audiences (2021 – ongoing)

Donor: Asia Pacific Internet Development Trust (APIDT)

The project is developing APNIC-branded courseware and gamified material, to explain how the Internet works from an APNIC and Internet addressing perspective, including the creation and digitization of the card game IPGO. It will help foster more meaningful engagements and help give decision-makers a better understanding of how the Internet works.

Satellite Arterial Research and Educational Network in Asia-Pacific (SARENA-PAC) research and development project (2021 – ongoing)
