D4D4D – Dollar for Dollar for Development

BUILDING TECHNICAL CAPACITY FOR INTERNET DEVELOPMENT IN THE ASIA PACIFIC REGION

The APNIC Dollar for Dollar for Development (D4D4D) Program is an opportunity to double the impact of your support for Internet development in the Asia Pacific. Focused on providing an open, stable, and secure Internet that serves everyone in the region, the program is open to all companies that depend on the Internet to reach their customers in the Asia Pacific.

INTRODUCTION

A reliable, secure and efficient Internet in the Asia Pacific is dependent on the technical capacity of those who build and operate it.

Since 1993, APNIC, the Regional Internet address Registry for the Asia Pacific, has supported, developed, and worked with network engineers and operators across 56 economies.

APNIC’s Development Program has always been entirely self-funded thanks to the generous support of its Members, which now number more than 13,000. The program employs a team of 10 including up to 5 full-time trainers. Training and technical assistance alone accounts for more than half of the Development budget of USD 2.5 million in 2017.

This investment allows APNIC to provide in-country, face-to-face training to over 2,000 network engineers a year, and online video and self-paced courses to many others, reaching more than half a million beneficiaries annually in total.

While APNIC’s work is effective and well respected, it’s clearly not sufficient to satisfy the needs of the Internet, which is growing not only in size and complexity, but in importance for our regional community.

THE OPPORTUNITY

In 2016, APNIC established the APNIC Foundation to support the growth of the APNIC Development Program, and to increase the scale and effectiveness of our work in regional Internet development.

APNIC is committed to continue investing in training and technical assistance and its other development activities. But now the APNIC Foundation is seeking matching funds to allow a doubling of APNIC’s training output. We are referring to this program as the APNIC Dollar for Dollar for Development (D4D4D) of the Internet.

For partners in the private sector, the program provides an opportunity to maximize the impact and benefits of their investments in the Asia Pacific’s Internet.
